VF-201, known as the "Hunters," was a U.S. Navy Reserve fighter squadron established in 1970. The squadron initially flew the F-8 Crusader before transitioning to the F-4 Phantom II in 1976, and later to the F-14A Tomcat in the 1980s. VF-201 was based at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth in Texas and was part of the U.S. Navy Reserve's Tactical Support Wing.
In January 1999 the Hunters transitioned to the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A Hornet and was re-designated VFA-201 to signify its new multi-mission capability as a strike fighter squadron.VFA-201 was disestablished in 2007, but its legacy as a highly capable reserve fighter squadron remains significant in U.S. naval aviation history.
